As a memorial to pianist Raphael Terroni (1945-2012), Founder Member, former Chairman and late Vice Chairman of the British Music Society, we were proud to produce this first issue on CD of a recording made in 1989 and originally issued on cassette only (BMS411). The CD includes new booklet notes on the Bridge and Scott Quintets and an encomium to Raphael by his friend and BMS Vice President Giles Easterbrook.

REVIEWS

“… As with the Bridge Quintet, the [Scott] performance is very fine…This disc should be of interest to anyone who enjoys exploring early twentieth-century chamber music, and not just music by British composers, since both Bridge and Scott were cosmopolitan figures. With unobtrusively clean sound and detailed notes, this can be warmly recommended…” Nigel Simeone, International Record Review)

“The British Music Society originally issued these pioneer recordings of neglected works on cassette but it is welcome that they now come on CD, if sadly too late for the fine pianist, Raphael Terroni, to endorse them (the force behind the project, he died last August). The results may have originally been recorded as long ago as 1989 but the balance of sound remains excellent…It is good to have these fine works available on disc at last,” Edward Greenfield, Gramophone

“This BMS disc is a most welcome addition to the CD catalogue. This is playing that is sincere, vital, passionate, and highly responsive to the demands of these scores,” Michael Cookson, MusicWeb
